Abdulaziz Al-Babtain Cultural
Foundation participated in the twentieth session of the Conference of Ministers
Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World, held by the Arab
Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ALECSO) in Tunisia.
The session was chaired by Tunisian
Minister of Culture and was attended by Arab culture ministers or representatives
and prominent cultural figures in the Arab world as well as Arab and
international organizations including the Arab League, the Islamic Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the International Peace Institute.
Dr Touhami Abdouli represented the Abdulaziz
Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation at the conference, on behalf of its
chairman, poet Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain. Dr Abdouli participated in the
workshop entitled “Cultural Media role on social development” where he emphasized how
important cultural media to enlighten minds and establish an intellectual
approach to individuals and institutions. He noted that governments should support
cultural media and give a sovereign role in the development process. Dr Abdouli
said also that the Arab interest given to culture is not enough especially in
the digital era where people are open to the world’s different cultures through
modern means of communication.
“The goal of Arab intellectuals
today is to find their culture and cultural output in a good position in the
midst of this momentum of cultures flowing via the Internet and other means of
communication,” Dr Abdouli said. He gave an example of the cultural media through
Al-Babtain cultural channel founded by poet Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain. “This non-profit
cultural channel plays an enlighting role in the community with its different
shows and programs about the Arabic language and the intercultural dialogue;it
also givesan opportunity to different talents and creativity in order to reach a
wider segment of people,” he explained.
